The 26-year-old opening batsman joined a select band of cricketers who have scored six sixes in one over.

Greg’s remarkable feat came during an impressive knock of 110 as Delph overhauled home side Barkisland’s total of 194-6 with four wickets intact.

He said: “I have played for Lancashire’s second team, played club cricket in South Africa and Australia and have been lucky to have some good times in cricket, but the feeling of hitting six sixes tops the lot.

“It is definitely something I won’t ever do again. It will be something to look back on with good memories and to tell my grandchildren about one day.”

Looking back on that never-to-be-forgotten over, Greg recalled: “The six from the first ball was a pretty flat shot and it only just cleared the boundary.

“When I got to three it entered my mind, that I might be able to get six sixes. And by the fourth one I had made my mind that I was going for it.

“It was an amazing feeling to achieve that, and even the Barkisland fans went mad.”

Greg, who works as a builder, is from Mossley. He is in his second season with Delph having joined them from Kirkburton.

He was at Lancashire between the ages of 13 and 20 playing for their second team before his county career was effectively ended by a broken ankle which kept him out of cricket for one year.

Greg also had another important knock of 69 as Delph won a high scoring game at Golcar, though he was eclipsed by team-mate Chris Laker who scored 126 off 139 balls as the team totalled 300-7.

In reply, Golcar gave a gutsy account of themselves before falling just short at 268-8.
