IF LONGEVITY is an indicator of good business practice then former college pals, Graham Thompson and Ian Kelly are doing plenty right.
Via Blackpool, America and Germany the trained illustrators and graphic designers are now in their third decade working together.
You’ll find them and their company, Media Mill Ltd, occupying unit 5 nestled in the corner of Gatehead Business Park at Delph.
Inside is state of the art equipment capable of producing everything from exhibition boards, display panels, vinyl banners, posters, bespoke, digitally printed wallpaper and – soon to be added to their portfolio – wipeable table cloths.
Other commissions include magazine, brochure, flyers and advertising material design.
All items are wrapped and packaged on site with a courier service made available for the finished articles, no matter how small or how large.
“We try and do as much as we can in house,” says Ian. “It means we have control over the finished article so we know it leaves here as it should.
“We like to keep it personal. When you phone up you are speaking to the guys who are doing the job.”
The duo originally started working from Ian’s former home in Egerton Street, Mossley. Having outgrown this, they moved to the Saddleworth Business Centre behind the Old Bell before switching to their current premises eight years ago.
Graham explained, “We took this building on because we needed more space. It has a nice office environment upstairs combined with a great workshop area downstairs.”
There you will find the latest latex printer used for producing high quality indoor and outdoor signage and banners but with thought for the environment.
“It is not a solvent based machine; it’s eco friendly using an ink system that is water based,” added Graham.” The ink is cured at high temperature and latex coated to make it scratch resistant.”
There have been plenty of satisfied customers in the 21 years since they started in business together.
Just ask Cummins Generator Technologies after Media Mill transformed a blank canvas of two floors of new office space with vinyl graphics, acrylic panels and wall graphics on printed wallpaper.
Cummins’ Anita Fountain explained: “Media Mill have a great attitude, a willingness to ‘get the job done’ even under unreasonable timelines. They provided complete design and implementation. We could not have been happier with the outcome.”
