CAN YOU fall down a rabbit hole full of delights and surprises in Saddleworth?
Yes you can, at Curious Alice.
After three-and-a-half years in Lees, the popular ladies wear boutique has now moved to Uppermill High Street.
Selling UK designer brands such as Tempest, ICHI, Sugar Hill Boutique and Wolf and Whistle, Curious Alice is the new place for Saddleworth to get fast, yet affordable, fashion.
The store, which is opposite Uppermill Post Office, also sells a fabulous array of shoes, bags, jewellery, little gifts and candles.
And since throwing open its doors on Easter Weekend, the shop has been busy.
Kate Jackson, the owner, has always lived in Saddleworth and feels the fashionable area is just right for what she has to offer.
She explained: “I think it is going that way, it’s more popular and people come from quite far to visit here.
“There are brands every budget and they are guaranteed to give that ‘where did you get that from?’ factor with every purchase.
“We pride ourselves in stocking independent brands and there’s something for all shapes sizes and ages.”
Kate, a biomedical science graduate, travelled to Australia and Fiji before coming back to good ol’ Uppermill and working in retail. After 12 years in the industry, her mum suggested opening a shop.
“I always liked Lily Allen’s shop, Lucy in Disguise,” Kate said. “So when it came to naming my own shop, I knew I wanted an actual girl’s name.
“My friend’s middle name was Alice and it just came from there. It’s like Alice in Wonderland, which is how we designed the shop in Lees, with big clocks and flamingos.”
She continued: “I’m becoming obsessed with Kitty’s Café as I look outside the windows when I’m working and see it and it always looks really nice!”
