Discover Castleshaw Valley on new heritage trails

STEP BACK in time to explore Castleshaw Valley with three new trails launched to help you uncover the secrets of the landscape.

Reveal hidden stories about an ancient burial mound and a Roman road, and find out about people who once lived here, how they made a living and how they shaped the valley over the centuries.Watershed Landscape

Three trail guides, organised by Watershed Landscape, are available to download onto your smartphone or Iphone, as well as printable versions.

Trail one looks at ‘People and Places’ and the 2.7 kilometre (1.7 mile) walk takes approximately 1 hour, following well-kept tracks and roads but with some rough ground underfoot and one stile.

‘Wool and Workshop’ Trail 2 explores how the woollen trade left its mark on landscape and buildings, with the 2 kilometre walk (1.24miles) lasting around 40 minutes with rough ground underfoot and one very steep downhill slope.

The third trail guide, ‘Changing lands, moving people’ looks at the routes created across the valley during a 2.9 kilometre (1.8 mile) walk over around an hour, with gently up and downhill slopes, some rough ground and stiles.

A showcase of Trail 3 will take place on Saturday, August 24 from 10.30am, meeting at Brun Clough Reservoir car park. You do not need to have the trail downloaded as the guide will bring along a device.
