ONE OF Saddleworth’s most successful brass bands has issued a clarion call in a bid to recruit new members.
Last year, Dobcross Silver Band attended and played at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, Belgium.
They also played contests at Blackpool and Rochdale, several local concerts, weddings, and the annual Saddleworth Whit Friday marches and contests.
Now, the team is looking for new players to join them and keep their busy schedule – and long history – going.
Andy Black, the band’s chairman, said: “The Silver Band has a rich history spanning more than 140 years and we are now looking to rebuild.
“We have been impacted recently by the loss of a number of players due to a combination of illness and family/work related commitments.
“We are currently seeking applications for new players, with all positions considered. It’s a great team and we would be delighted to welcome new members.
“The band is an integral part of the community in Dobcross where the club is also home to the Dobcross Youth Band and adult learner group The Dobcross Brass Monkeys.”
Dobcross Silver Band rehearse on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Dobcross Band and Social Club, Platt Lane.
