Dobcross Silver Band’s noteworthy BBC appearance

A SADDLEWORTH brass band hit all the right notes as it performed live in front of its largest ever audience.

Dobcross Silver Band’s one-off concert on a recent edition of BBC North West Tonight was watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers.

Now members hope their pre-Christmas appearance on the popular magazine programme will attract new converts to brass band music.

“We continue to receive great feedback from many sources,” said Band chairman Andy Black.

“We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to showcase the quality and traditions of Saddleworth Brass Bands to such a wide audience.

“While we had very short notice to appear, we had plenty of players able to rearrange their schedules to attend.”

The Band got wind of their 15-minutes of fame after performing at the annual St Johns Ambulance Carol Service at Manchester Cathedral.

“A producer rang to say the BBC had received complimentary reports on the quality of our performance and smart appearance,” added Andy.

“The staff, including presenters Roger Johnson and Annabel Tiffin, were most kind and helpful to us throughout. The result was a most enjoyable experience for us all.

“And it crowned a really positive end to a busy and eventful year for the band.

“Under the guidance of musical director Jason Smith and having recruited several quality players  we are looking forward to the year ahead with plenty of optimism.”
