Dog walkers are warned of fouling consequences

RESIDENTS in a quiet Uppermill road have called foul on irresponsible owners who allow their dogs to soil the pavements.

After becoming fed up with increasing amounts of excrement, home-made signs have been erected to warn dog walkers of the penalties.

To underline concern and anger a distinctive silhouette of a crouching canine has been erected in one of the worse spots with the message ‘No dumping’.

The Independent has seen the mess left on Spring Street by dogs whose owners don’t ‘scoop the poop’.

Under the request to ‘please clean up after your dog’ comes the warning of the consequences for people who don’t.

It says: “Please remember – if you allow your dog to foul any public place, you can be liable for a Fixed Penalty Notice (£52) to be served on you on the spot which is a fast-track alternative to prosecution in the Magistrates Court which carries a maximum fine of £1,000.”
