Don’t delay: check out new timetable and new trains

PASSENGERS using Greenfield station – Oldham’s last remaining rail stop – are reminded of timetable changes later this month.

Copies of the new timetable are now available from the station on Shaw Hall Bank Road.

Customers can also expect to travel in greater comfort after TransPennine Express (TPE) launched its new ‘Nova’ fleet of trains as part of a £500 million investment. The 44-train fleet offers between 286-342 seats and five carriages.

Nova 1 serves Liverpool to Newcastle and Edinburgh to Manchester Airport and Newcastle, Nova 2 travels between Manchester and Liverpool to Glasgow and Edinburgh via Preston, and Nova 3 moves between Liverpool, Manchester Airport, Scarborough and Middlesbrough.

Each new train features high quality seating and interiors with more luggage space, plug and USB charging points, free on-board wi-fi in both standard and first class and the entertainment system Exstream featuring the latest TV shows, news and films.

On confirmation of the new timetable Mark Ashmore, chair of Greenfield Rail Action Group (GRAG), said: “In the main, Monday to Saturday trains leave for Manchester Piccadilly at 14 minutes past the hour and to Huddersfield at 22 minutes past the hour.

“In the peak period, Monday to Saturday, there is a half hourly service to Manchester and Leeds.

“Travellers are asked to inform the group of any deficiencies and problems in the service so that the Transpennine Express (TPE) can be contacted and hopefully rectified for the future service.

“Proprietors of the Saddleworth Rambler (356) bus service have been informed of the changes and they will be making appropriate changes to their timetable.”

  1. Following changes to the train timetables (15tth Dec) at Greenfield, TfGM have retimed the ‘connecting’ 356 Saddleworth Rambler bus in such a way that it doesn’t connect with the trains at all, except twice in each peak, and the last bus from Greenfield on Fridays and Saturdays. Nice one. That should kill off the evening service pretty quick.
