BREWERY WORKER Dennis Lamb toasted success at Saddleworth Golf Club winning two pieces of silverware in a magical fortnight.
First Dennis, who is employed in the bottling plant at Robinson’s in Stockport, captured the J W Holt Trophy which was followed by an even bigger honour, President’s Prize which is one of the club’s majors.
And Springhead-based Dennis is aiming to make it a hat trick in the 36-hole major, the Mountain Ash which is played over the last weekend of September and first weekend of October.
Dennis had a round of 79-13-66 to win the J W Holt Trophy after a card play-off against Jamie Heywood whose return was 70-4-66.
Despite having two shots lopped off his handicap for the first round of the President’s and three for the second, Dennis again came up trumps.
He had a two-round return of 77-11-66 and 80-10-70 for 136 which was one shot clear of Daniel Fletcher (72 and 65 for 137). Third place went to Roy Dobson (68 and 72 for 140).
Dennis had previously won one major at Saddleworth, the Committee Cup in 2007 and also finished runner-up in many competitions.
“It is the best spell I have enjoyed because I have never previously won back-to-back competitions. Let’s hope I can make it three in a row in the Mountain Ash,” he joked.
