THE Dovestone Diamond 10k, a regular feature on the running calendar for the last seven years, won’t be taking place on Wednesday, May 23.
Race director Colin Green has been forced to cancel the event that last year was won by Royton Road Runners’ Rob James.
He said: “It is with great regret that I have to announce that this year’s Dovestone Diamond will be unable to take place.
“This is due to the United Utilities’ dam work on the course between Dovestone and Yeoman Hey Reservoir over-running and the devastation in Chew Plantation caused by fallen trees because of the ‘Beast from the East’.
“I have been exploring all different route options to avoid these two issues, but have been unable to secure access permissions for the race and we are now running out of time to get a race licence.”
Colin added he is disappointed as the race is not-for-profit with all proceeds to charities who will lose out this year.
