Dovestone members sail to sucsess across Europe

DOVESTONE SAILING Club members have been picking up prizes all over Europe this summer.

Starting at the beginning of the summer the club’s Flying Fifteen sailors made history at the Windermere Northerns.

Rather like the Americas Cup that for over a hundred years remained in America, at Royal Windermere Yacht Club there was a team trophy that no club had managed to wrestle from the hosts.

This year was the making of history as the Dovestone club team of three boats beat off all the opposition and now has a fabulous team trophy that has decorated the RWYC bar for 30 years.

Further afield several members went to France where the Flying Fifteen French nationals and worlds took place in August. Club members Rod Rowlands and Dave Naylor won the French nationals in their Flying Fifteen Classic and then John Clarke and Mick Scholes went on to take gold in the worlds.

But the success for Dovestone sailors didn’t end there as Ian Jones took gold in the Laser Masters European Championships in Poland. He was well clear of his nearest rival for the Masters Trophy.

The club is always eager to welcome new members. Courses are held regularly for those new to sailing. The club has a boat borrowing scheme. For more experienced sailors there is racing on Sundays from March to December and on Wednesday evenings from April to September.
