RUSTLING SWEETS packets, chattering children and flamboyant stage designs can mean only one thing – it’s pantomime season again.
And this year’s feast of family fun at the Oldham Coliseum – ‘Mother Goose’ – does not disappoint as it comes stuffed full of laughter, slapstick and entertainment.
Star of the show is certainly the pantomime dame, Fine Time Fontayne, whose ‘egg-cellent’ jokes are rivalled only by her eye-catching costumes – and more than ample bottom.
The story follows her excited quest after Priscilla the goose lays golden eggs and Old Mother Goose delightedly shares her wealth with all her family and friends.
Cue the wicked Demon of Discontent who tries to tempt her to trade Priscilla for untold wealth, youth and beauty – but will Mother Goose realise before it is too late?
Be prepared for baddie-booing galore as the comic characters try to wipe the smile – and spine-tingling evil laugh – off the Demon’s face.
There’s a love story in the mix, flying sweets to test the audience’s skills, and a cake-baking attempt that certainly wouldn’t impress Mary Berry…
The lively production is brimming full of popular songs which got me singing along in (not so) fine voice, and don’t forgort to shout as loud as you can for the cries of ‘it’s behind you’.
Complete with the full trimmings of a traditional pantomime, this is a cracking show for children and adults alike and the perfect way to get into festive spirit this winter.
Mother Goose runs at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre until Saturday 9 January 2016. Everyone’s favourite pantomime dame, Fine Time Fontayne heads a cast of Coliseum regulars: Andonis Anthony, Justine Elizabeth Bailey, Nicole Evans, Richard J Fletcher, Kaitlin Howard and Simeon Truby.
