VILLAGES ACROSS Saddleworth were thrown into chaos when an electricity fault caused loss of power at a substation.
Around 1,700 customers, including homes and businesses, were left in darkness from 10.05am until 11.30am on Friday, May 8 until a team of engineers restored power supplies.
Firefighters from Oldham and Mossley were quickly at the scene as clouds of acrid black smoke billowed across Wool Road from the substation near the junction of Delph New Road.
Customers at Dobcross village post office made visits in the gloom and one quipped: “It’s a bit like wartime.”
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“If any customers would like any further information, contact us on 0800 195 4141 and follow us @ElectricityNW.”
