A POPULAR Dobcross sub-postmaster is looking for an enterprising buyer to take over the village’s only shop and Post Office.

After 16 years, Sukhi Singh’s family have decided to sell the picturesque property at Woods Lane.
Sukhi said sadly: “Saddleworth has become our home. We have had years of bliss here and being part of the community.
“It’s like being part of a big family and we will miss the daily interaction with many people in the village and surrounding communities.
“However, with our other businesses expanding, I would like to concentrate on those and allow someone to take over this business and make it thrive as the only shop in the village.
“We would never want the business to close – it’s vital it remains open,” he stressed.
“The Post Office will remain within the business. We supply newspapers to two villages and offer a delivery service to customers who can’t get to the shop.
“We have reduced the price of the business considerably to allow someone to come in a develop it further and to make it affordable as an investment.”
He continued: “I have recently launched my own wine label and I’m launching an award-winning curry paste in January.
“Being hands on, I need to dedicate more time to these businesses to develop and expand them along with my luxury events and catering company.”
Oldham councillor John McCann, who lives in Dobcross, said: “Suhki has been an integral part of our community. He always greets customers with a big smile.
“Shoppers can pick up necessities, stamps, and parcels that the postman could not deliver instead of having to travel to Oldham.
“Sukhi’s been a community governor of our primary school, a member of the residents team, led a cookery course and has always been a supporter of many community efforts.
“We shall all miss his positive and optimistic presence as he moves on to concentrate on his other business interests.”
Pam Rose, chair of the Dobcross Village Community executive committee, added: “Sukhi will be missed by myself and the village. I wish him well with all his other ventures.”
