Eucharist to kickstart Saddleworth St Chad’s Church 800th anniversary celebrations

SADDLEWORTH’S CHURCHES will come together for a unique service on Sunday, March 1 to launch celebrations for St Chad’s 800th anniversary.

All the area’s Anglican Churches will be united in thanks and praise at the 11am Eucharist at St Chad’s with the Rt Revd Dr David Walker presiding and preaching.

The service will be the first to unite all the Saddleworth parishes at once since the Saddleworth Team was formed.

And it will launch the celebrations of 800 years of Christian Worship on the site of the current St Chad’s church, which was originally built in 1215 and until the mid-18th century was the only church in Saddleworth.

Banners will adorn the outside of the church and other churches are displaying banners with the 800th logo commissioned especially to mark the occasion.

A brass Celtic Cross will be blessed and mounted on the north wall – a lasting memorial of the 800th anniversary given by parishioners.

The service will be the first of many events planned from March 2015 to February 2016, with more details to follow soon.
