GREEN FINGERED residents and keen cooks of all ages are invited to show off their skills at the community’s annual flower shows.
On Saturday, September 7 at The Delph Show, which is in its 87th year, judges will pick winners in 64 classes at The Delph Club on Gartside Street.
Categories include five onions, green cabbage, tray of vegetables, four potatoes, three tomatoes, roses, best coat bloom and vase of flowers.
Craft and cookery classes on offer include homemade jam, six scones, bread, craftwork, and wine while there are handicraft and edible necklace classes for children.
Anyone can enter the show for 30p (children free) and entries can be submitted on the day between 7pm-9pm on Friday 6 or 9am-12,30pm on Saturday 7.
Judging will take place from 1pm, with a licensed bar available from 3pm and the show open for viewing refreshments from 4pm.
Cups and Trophies will be presented at 4.30pm by Mayor of Oldham John Hudson, followed by an auction of the produce and a raffle.
Meanwhile the Denshaw Flower Show will be held at the Village Hall three weeks later than usual on Saturday, September 14, with 75 classes on offer.
Categories include hardy roses, vase of sweet peas, flower arrangement, four matching potatoes, and vegetable tray.
Home produce sections include prizes for the best jam, parkin, and Victoria sandwich, while among the children’s prizes are tallest sunflower, gingerbread man and decorated egg.
Anyone can enter the show for 40p (children free) and entries can be submitted on the day between 9am-12.30pm on Saturday 14, with judging from 12.30pm.
The hall will be open for viewing from 3.15pm, followed by the presentation of prizes at 4pm by Mayor of Oldham John Hudson, an auction of exhibits and a raffle.
