FANTASTIC Friezland Band helped to bring three cheers to one lucky lady from Grasscroft at her special 75th birthday party.
The Seddon-Welchs came together from across the globe to join their mother and grandmother Marlane for her landmark celebrations at her home on Clough Lane.
With a huge marquee erected in the garden, plenty of food and drink laid on and entertainment from the talented brass band, there was one final thing to sort.
“I never imagined I’d be able to get all my family there as they live all over the place,” explained Marlane.
“My eldest son Anthony lives in Bahrain and I’ve not seen him for about two years, apart from talking on the iPad.
“On the morning of my party my other son Jonathan came across from Durham with his wife and said on the way they stopped to help a couple who asked them the way to Uppermill.
“He asked if I minded that he had invited them to my party and I said of course not – then my other son walked in! I was that surprised I couldn’t even cry!”
Other relatives joined from Durham and Warwick, while Marlane also has grandchildren living in Canada, to enjoy the celebrations.
“It was a fantastic afternoon and I thoroughly enjoyed it,” said Marlane. “It was just nice having the family together.”
And she reserved particular praise for Friezland Band, who played an hour slot of brass favourites, along with a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday.
“The band were excellent,” Marlane said. “They had a few young players who were brilliant.
“It was a fantastic afternoon and I want to say a big thank you to the band. Everybody commented on how good they were, and I loved them.”
As well as playing, Friezland Band presented Marlane with a special birthday gift – a copy of their first CD which they have just produced.
