BANK HOLIDAY Weekend is bursting with fun and a free feast for the imagination as Festival Oldham comes to town.
The borough’s annual celebration of art and entertainment takes place on Saturday, May 23 from 12 noon until 4pm at various sites across the town centre.
See the best of British and South Asian street theatre, music and dance as East meets West with amazing Bollywood dancers and the unique sounds of the Bombay Baja Brass Band.
Take part in Dhol drum workshops and get creative with Rangoli sand art.
Plus there are free arts activities and face painting for children and much more.
On the same day ‘Rooted’ takes place in the Gallery Oldham gardens, Greaves Street from 12 noon until 4pm to offer the chance to enjoy family fun from across the world.
Fresh from Peru, why not come and come and meet Paddington? The marmalade sandwich-loving bear will be making appearances throughout the day.
There is also the chance to make a colourful Tibetan wish flag in the gardens and alarger-than-life lionfish from the Indian Ocean.
Councillor Jean Stretton, Cabinet Member for Town Centres, Culture and Tourism, said: “Festival Oldham is now a well-established date on calendar and we’re delighted to be hosting this great family day out.
“Town centre shoppers and visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy and take part in a range of entertainment – and it is all free.”
