Find a new career at the Get Oldham Working Jobs Fair

RESIDENTS ARE invited to attend the Get Oldham Working (GOW) Jobs Fair 2016 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

If you are looking for a job, apprenticeship or work experience there will be more than 500 job related opportunities on show, arranged by Oldham Council.

Members of the GOW team will also be available on the day to advise you about jobs, careers and access to training across a wide range of sectors.

This free event, on Thursday, September 22 runs from 11am until 3pm. Just turn up on the day, there is no need to book a place.

Among the firms, companies and authorities exhibiting will be Brighter Beginnings, First Manchester, Blue Arrow, Greater Manchester Police, Caremark, Ashley Hunter Training, JW Lees, Pure Innovations, Regal Coachworks, Housing Units, P&R, Wilmott Dixon, CIC, OCL, Community Voice, NSL, Oldham College, OTC, Work Company, Kasa Academy.

There are positions available in the care, construction, metalwork and security industries; office, customer service and administration roles as well as driving and warehouse opportunities, among others.

Councillor Shoab Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Employment and Skills, said: “I would encourage residents who are looking for employment, or anyone who wants to find out about the opportunities open to them across the borough, to come along.

“Our Get Oldham Working team is dedicated to helping the careers of residents and we’d urge you to meet them and see if they can help you out.

“These are exciting times for the borough as our regeneration projects, like the Old Town Hall and Prince’s Gate at Oldham Mumps will continue to attract new large, medium and small-sized businesses to the borough, boosting the local economy and bringing in more jobs.”

If you cannot attend on the day it’s now even easier to contact the GOW team, which has supported the creation of 3,750 employment opportunities in less than three years.

They have moved on to the first floor of Metropolitan House, Hobson Street, Oldham, OL1 1TT – across the road from the Job Centre Plus.

The new base is operating an ‘open door’ policy, which means residents of working age can go along without an appointment and speak to a careers advisor, weekdays 9am until 4pm.

Over the next four years GOW is looking to engage with 6,000 residents and fill 5,000 work-related opportunities, so if you are looking for work it is a good time to get in touch.
