A HANDSOME 1920’s display cabinet is to be auctioned by the organisers of charity event in a unique bid to boost their funds.
The unusual gift comes from a local businessman whose father was a former member of Saddleworth Round Table, who are planning an exciting new spectacular – Saddfest 13.

Money raised from the sale of the cabinet will be ploughed into Table’s charity pot to provide a Winter Wonderland event in Uppermill and an old people’s party at Christmas.
Tony Jones from Uppermill, who ran a successful Oldham-based plastic and rubber business, gifted the cabinet to the delighted club after moving to Chamonix in South West France.
He said: “My dad was a passionate Tabler and I thought the cabinet could raise some much-needed extra funds for the club’s new initiative.”
Dave MacDougall, Saddfest 13’s organiser, said: “It’s a terrific gesture. I am sure there will be lots of interest from local people who would like to own this lovely piece of furniture.”
And club chairman, Ian Eardley (pictured with Mr MacDougall) said: “I made inquiries from a well-known auction house on Kings Road in London and they have told me the piece could be worth up to £600.”
Meantime, plans are in full swing for Saddfest 13 which takes place on Saturday, September 7 at Saddleworth Rangers ground, Shaw Hall Bank Road, Greenfield.
The musical entertainment will open with Schwing, headed by Saddleworth musician and publican Anthony Kinsey, who is also the festival’s musical director.
Radio personality and singer Mike Sweeney and Paddy O’Hare, who make up The Collective, will headline a series of dazzling acts performing throughout the event.
Phil Middleton ‘No Worries’, four-piece will provide pop, soul, covers and originals and the audience can expect energetic sets from The Giddy Gringos, Bilbo Stamp, Cabbage Alley and local singing sensation Daniela.
There will also be seven dedicated food and drink outlets plus children’s face-painting and amusements at the event, which is sponsored by The White Hart, Old Bell and Farrars Arms.
Mr MacDougall added: “Local businesses have given us fantastic support and sponsorship to ensure we can run the event safely and everyone can enjoy a great family day.”
Chairman Ian Eardley added: “We are all really looking forward to the festival. It should be a terrific day for everyone.”
The festival replaces Round Table’s legendary Beer Walk which was scrapped two years ago because of problems on the 11.2 mile route.
