At around 10.40am on Monday 24 February, police were called to Dovestone Reservoir following reports that a body had been seen.
When officers attended, supported by an underwater search team, the body of 28-year-old Craig Wilcox was recovered from the water.
A post mortem examination was carried out, but the result was inconclusive.
Craig was last seen on 6 January at the home of relatives on Norfolk Crescent in Failsworth.
A missing from home investigation was launched by detectives in Oldham which established Craig had confided in a friend to say he feared for his safety.
Two men aged 29 and 53 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and production of cannabis.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and production of cannabis and a 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis. They have all been bailed pending further enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Terry Crompton from GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “Although we have made four arrests in connection with Craig’s death we are still appealing for the public’s help to tell us what happened to him before he died.
“However insignificant you think your information is it could be the vital piece which may help our investigation.”
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call police on 0161 856 4711 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
