Fresh lease of life as new team takes over Christy’s Coffee House in Uppermill

A FRESH lease of life is being brought to a coffee house in Uppermill as its owners of ten years have handed over the keys to a new team.

Marc and Irene O’Neill opened Christy’s Coffee House in March 2007 but as they celebrate their tenth year in business they have decided to sell up and move on.

They hosted a leaving party in May, serving up food and drinks for their loyal customers and friends in the glorious sunshine.

Among the visitors were new owners Steven Palmer and his wife Beth along with Jason Smith, who all come from Moorside and have a background in the bar industry.

Marc explained: “We when opened, we had a five-year plan and we’ve done twice that. We’re absolutely worn out so decided it is time for new blood to come in with fresh ideas.

“It is in a great spot and is a lovely asset for the village. It just needs somebody to come in with energy and bring a new lease of life.

“But we are sad to say goodbye as we’ve loved every minute of it. It has been like a little child to us, helping it develop over the years and we have wonderful memories.

“We’ve had some great, loyal customers and we want to thank each and every one of them very much. And we wish the new team success in their endeavours.”

The couple will continue to live above the coffee house for the near future, and Marc is looking forward to having more spare time to practice his violin and play at local venues.

Meanwhile, the new team are raring to go and have plans for an extensive refurbishment and rebranding – including a new name – for their new business.

Steven said: “We heard a rumour it was for sale, so we came down to have a drink and introduce ourselves and it’s gone from there.

“We’ve got a lot of ideas and will be making a lot of changes as we are going for more of a coffee shop and wine bar vibe. We’re very excited.”

But they will leave the coffee house unchanged for now until they close in June for two weeks for the refurbishment before a launch party in July. More details to follow soon.
