AN EXCITING taste of Italian style is livening up an Uppermill fruit and vegetable shop as three siblings bring a flavour of their homeland to the village.
Tony Alberti, twin brother John and sister Caroline took over the popular shop on New Street at the end of February and have renamed it ‘Alimentari Di Alberti’, which means ‘Food by Alberti’.
The shop is packed from floor to ceiling with mouth-watering fresh fruit and vegetables from strawberries, raspberries and apples to lettuce, cauliflowers and carrots.
And to bring a little Italian style to the mix, the trio, who live in Greenfield, have already added a few of their own home favourites to the offerings.
Caroline said: “We’ve mainly kept what we have to offer the same but we’ve added a few new things to it, like Italian cheeses, olives, sundried tomatoes and dried porcini mushrooms.
“We aim to continue with the high levels of quality fresh fruit and vegetables and excellent customer service that the previous owners established.
“At the same time we wanted to add something different, something of ourselves, to our shop.”
The siblings previously worked in Manchester in their family businesses and Tony revealed they are excited to be branching out together in their local area.
“We love living here and wanted to do something locally and this is an exciting time for us” he said.
“We want to bring a touch of Italian style and class to Uppermill. People are intrigued by the name of the shop and lots of them come in and ask us what it means.
“We want to promote healthy eating and highlight the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, which has long been associated with a better quality of life and good health.
“We are friendly and knowledgeable about our products and will offer advice and recipe ideas for our valued customers, with tips on healthy dishes to be made at home.
“This will offer our customers ideas on how to use the foods in our shop and make fresh, easy and quick meals that are more, fun, tasty and fresh for families and individuals.”
John added: “We will be introducing new and exciting products along the way too, including dried fruits and seeds for salads, so watch this space.”
“We would like to thank everyone for their support so far and say a big thank you and hello to all the loyal and new customers. Benvenuto a tutti.”
