Fundraisers target more success

AFTER RAISING more than £15,000 last year, a local fundraising team is hoping for another bumper 12 months as they plan a host of charity events for The Christie.

The Christie Allsorts smashed their £10,000 target last August and then raisedaround another £5,000 thanks to generous supporters at quizzes, walks and themed events.

SUCCESS: The Allsorts at the launch of the mobile chemotherapy unit

They were helped by donations from a Race Night at the King William IV pub in Greenfield and from Christmas activities with St. Chad’s School, Uccelli, FriezlandSchool and Saddleworth Musical Society.

This money helped towards the purchase and £450,000 running costs of a mobile chemotherapy unit, which was launched in December for patients across Greater Manchester.

Christine Harrop, chair of the Christie Allsorts, said: “Patients in local communities can now benefit from this incredible unit and service which is just the same as going to The Christie.

“For everyone who has supported the Christie Allsorts, when you see the unit on the road, please feel incredibly proud that you helped to pay towards it.”

And now the team has challenged itself to raise £11,000 in 2014 for equipment inThe Christie’s Young Oncology Unit and for two virtual windows for the Brachytherapy Suite (Intensive Isolation Unit).

Fundraising will start on Saturday, March 1 with a Motown and 60’s Night atGreenfield Conservative Club from 7.30pm.

There will be live entertainment and swinging 60s music and tickets, which cost £7 each including a hot supper, are available from the Con Club, Greenfield Post Office or Christine on 07801 483272.

And the group is also running an ‘unwanted gifts appeal’ and asking residents to donate any unwanted toys, chocolates, gifts, books, dvds or cds to be used in raffles and tombolas.

The appeal will run throughout the year and items can be left at various donation points – please contact Christine for more details.

If you would like to be a Christie Allsort, why not join them on the first Tuesday of the month at the Hanging Gate pub in Diggle. Contact Christine for more details: 07801 483272 or email charropmktg@tiscali.co.uk
