IF YOU’RE thinking about taking up a new sport to get fit this year, Tame Valley Tennis and Squash Club in Greenfield could be just what you’re looking for.

With three indoor squash/racquetball courts and four outdoor tennis courts, the amateur club on Green Bridge Lane boasts some of the best facilities in the area.

And to give you a taste of the club and a chance to trial the sports, they are offering potential new members one month’s free membership completely without obligation.

Founded in 1923 as a tennis club, it was expanded in the 1970s to also provide squash courts and now offers year-round facilities for members of all ages and abilities.

The squash courts have recently been overhauled with new lighting and also offer viewing areas for spectators while the floodlit tennis courts have a large patio area for onlookers.

With two mixed teams in the Oldham Tennis League and four men’s and ladies’ teams in the Manchester League, there are plenty of opportunities for players with a competitive cut and thrust.

During the winter months, the club, which is Oldham’s only competitive squash club, fields four teams in the North West Counties League – the largest squash league in the world.

Professional coaching is also available in both tennis and squash for adult or juniors who wish to improve their game.

Or for those who prefer to play socially, facilities can be used at leisure by members and their guests.

Away from the courts, the club, which is owned and run by members, also offers a comfortable and relaxing licensed bar lounge where members can relax after a vigorous game.

And the club’s vibrant social scene and regular events ensure there is always something to get involved with, from New Year’s Eve Dinners to barbeques and discos.

The Tame Valley Tennis and Squash Club welcome new members and offers tennis, squash or social memberships. For more information, please visit www.tamevalley.info or email Membership Secretary Mike Stirland at michaeljstirland@yahoo.co.uk
