Get snapping this Spring for a new photo competition

AS SPRING arrives, Saddleworth will soon be awash with the sights and sounds of the countryside in bloom.

And keen photographers can celebrate the beauty of season by entering a new competition launched by the Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents’ Association (GGRA) Tree Watch Group.P23 trees poster 2_001

Children and adults alike are invited to submit their pictures of trees and can choose any aspect they like, such as woodland, individual trees, branches, leaves or blossom.

All entries to the competition, which is sponsored by Millyard Gallery and Eden Flowers, must be taken in Saddleworth between March 1 and May 31, 2014.

Entries will be judged by professional photographer Darren Robinson and the best will be published in the Oldham Chronicle and on GGRA’s website, and prizes will be awarded.

Mike Rooke, from the GGRA Tree Watch Group, said: “By involving all age groups, we hope this ‘Trees in Spring’ Photo competition will raise awareness of trees in our neighbourhoods.

“We hope to run a further three similar competitions over the next twelve months to cover all four seasons.”

Set up at the start of the year, the Greenfield Tree Watch Group seeks to protect trees and hedgerows in the area, preventing unnecessary felling and damage to woodland.

They will be working with OMBC and other tree protection agencies to ensure that responsible tree management and replanting takes place.

Entries to the ‘Trees in Spring’ competition must be submitted as high resolution .jpg files by email to comms@ggra.co.uk no later than Monday, June 2. No more than five photos per entrant. Entrants must state name, age (if under 16), location(s) with date(s).

Anyone interested in getting involved in the Tree watch Group please contact comms@ggra.co.uk or phone 01457 597666.
