A CHARITY box for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution was among items stolen in a raid on a Greenfield butcher’s shop.
The burglars also escaped with a shop till and float of money in the attack on Tim Scott’s butchers and confectionary shop on Chew Valley Road in the early hours of Sunday, October 16.
“Sadly, I guess it was our turn,” said Tim who last year celebrated more than three decades in business.
“The intruders smashed the entrance door window with a large rock and seemed to know exactly what they were looking for.
“There was no other messy damage but the till, float and the charity box on the counter were all taken.”
Saddleworth businesses and homes have been under siege this year from burglars and opportunistic thieves with increased police patrols in recent months.
Tim will now try to ensure this is the first and last attack on the popular Road End shop.
“I’ve decided to put in CCTV cameras which I’m told will capture images outside the shop and at the Road End crossroads,” he explained.
“Hopefully it will act as deterrent and prevent something like this happening again.”
