Ground improvements continue at Friarmere

FRIARMERE CRICKET Club is continuing with ground improvement work.

Club officials are laying a further 40 yards of drains during the close season as these photographs show.

They have already done around 200 yards in recent years after securing a £2,000 grant from the Sports Council.

The work entails digging channels and laying building blocks of recycled rubber that absorb water.

And secretary Craig Ramadhin believes the club is reaping the dividends after winning the second division title in the Saddleworth League, their first honour since 1979.

“The new drains have made a big difference. Half our home games would not have been played this season had it not been for the work because our pitch was always renowned for being bad for drainage,” he explained.
