CREATIVE scarecrows were the stars of the day at this year’s Denshaw Flower Show.

The popular annual Flower and Home Produce Show proved another success last month as locals flocked to the Village Hall with their entries.
Now firmly established in the local calendar, the show continues to grow, and this year saw the introduction of a scarecrow competition.
In the lead up to the event, an eye-catching display of scarecrows outside The Junction Inn gave delight to passers-by before competitors revealed their own creations at the show.
Dr Andrew Vance, show chairman, said: “We are always open to new ideas and suggestions as we want the show to continue to grow and succeed.
“I think with the scarecrows we have a winner as they provided interest in the show in the lead-up and have provided a source of fun for the village, so long may it continue.”
David Wheeler, one of the show organisers, added: “Due to the wet summer, the number of entries were a credit to Denshaw and the surrounding area.
“We welcome entries from anybody and there are no restrictions on where people live.
“There are classes for the children so it is something we encourage all ages to take part in.”
The prizes this year were presented to winners by Councillor Pam Byrne. The main prize winners were:
Best Home Produce: Violet Barker; Best Dahlia: Joe Halsall; Best Flower: Ann Smith; Best Vegetable: D Mullarkey; Most Points in show: Millicent Feber; Best Horticultural Exhibit: Christine Evans.
Could you please tell me when the flower show will be held this year 2018, and how do I get a programme of the events. Thank you Alice Byrom
