Guest of honour the Gruffalo opens Swan Meadow Nurseries’ expansion

THE Gruffalo made a special trip out of the woods to open Swan Meadow Nurseries’ new state-of-the-art classroom at their Cottage Nursery in Delph. He was guest of honour at the gathering of excited children, parents and staff and took centre stage to cut the ribbon and officially announce the facilities open.

The project, which began in September, includes the new classroom as well as a welcoming reception area, modern office and meeting space.

The Swan Meadow team said: “We have worked closely with Oldham planning officers, local architects and surveyors to design a space that promotes our connection to nature.

“We have created an environment that includes large windows to let in natural light with views of the riverside setting and direct access to our woodland facilities.

“One very large woodland animal has become a firm favourite with the children and often leads walks around the setting – the Gruffalo! So he was our guest of honour for the launch.”

The completed project is the first of an innovative phase of developments for the nursery, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.Further projects already underway include a magical Woodland Eco Centre and a completely refurbished Eco Preschool which will be finalised this year.
