The Institute of Professional Willwriters is 25 years old this year.
It was founded in 1991 to provide much-needed professional and ethical standards in an unregulated sector of the law system, which had seen ‘cowboy’ willwriters take advantage of vulnerable clients with poorly drafted wills at extortionate prices.
The IPW has a self-regulated code of practice to guarantee all its members have reached a high standard of willwriting and estate planning through external examination and continuous professional development.
In 2010, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute approved the code of practice, which provided all consumers with the comfort of enforceable protection and a robust complaint process if required.
The IPW has grown into an influential body recognised at government level and in several legal service sectors.
A measure of this substantial progress was provided at last month’s national conference when Professor Lesley King, a leading Estate Planning authority, presented a keynote speech to IPW members.
In addition to a recognised professional qualification, IPW members have access to other legal services including conveyancing, contentious probate and estate administration (probate).
An IPW member also has a wide network of experts to call on for specific advice on care planning, life time trusts, will storage and inheritance tax planning. This means they can provide a wider range of services, not solely willwriting.
IPW members are a credible alternative in the legal sector, offering personal service (home visits) and competitive prices.
Hay Tarn Willwriting Services complies with the IPW code of practice and is proud to be their area co-ordinator. Call them on 01457 820725 or email: email@example.com
