A MANCHESTER to Blackpool charity ride has raised nearly £1,400 to ensure pupils at a new Greenfield school can have the brightest possible futures.

Helen Baker spent more than seven hours in the saddle and pedalled about 80 miles in support of Bright Futures School for children with autism.
It was wet, windy but ultimately fun for the design and project co-ordinator at Robert Scott on Manchester Road.
But Helen opted for four wheels instead of two when she visited youngsters to receive a ‘thank you’ card from appreciative young-sters at their temporary accommodation in Greenacres.
And she has left her fundraising page open to push on to a final total of £2,000.
Bright Futures, previously based on Oldham Road, Grasscroft, is committed to raising £40,000 towards equipment for their new permanent school on land off Friezland Lane. This includes £28,000 for an immersive sensory/educational space.
“It was very hairy down the promenade and the wind was so strong I nearly got blown off my bike a few times,” explained Helen, joined on the route by cycling pals from Chorlton Wanderers and the London-based Fridays club.
“It rained all night but it was great and with lovely countryside.
“I always fancied challenging myself to do this night ride but thought ‘why not use the challenge to do something even better,’” she told the Independent.
“If the school can get this equipment these children can have good fun, develop new skills and come home from school with big smiles on their faces.
“It will be great if I can help improve the lives of these children.”
The route took Helen and her pals towards Tottington, for a rest stop at Blackburn on to Garstang and then down the Fylde coast via Fleetwood into Blackpool.
