Homes and businesses put on a display for real life advent calendar

HOUSES and businesses across Saddleworth are being transformed into festive displays as the real-life Advent calendar takes shape.

Properties around the area are turning themselves into Christmas scenes as part of this year’s event, organised by the Uppermill Advent group.

After the Methodist Church and a home on Saddleworth Fold became the first two, the attention shifts to Sherbrooke Avenue for today’s instalment.

There has been a serious message behind the pretty displays as donations to Oldham Foodbank could be left at Saddleworth Fold.

Items were left under a wreath in the shape of the logo of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament group yesterday, with a box for further donations.

The Uppermill Advent started in 2013 and has proved a popular addition to the area’s festive preparations.

Now homeowners are preparing to show off their artistic talent with another 22 to be shown between now and Christmas Eve.

Designs are showed on Uppermill Advent’s Twitter account at @UppermillAdvent.

Tonight’s display can be seen on Sherbrooke Avenue in Uppermill from 4pm.
