DELPH cricketer Grant Jones has been awarded the Drake Huddersfield League’s greatest honour.
Grant received the Lady Sykes Candlestick Trophy at the league’s annual dinner for services to the sport.
He said: “It is a massive honour that your work has been appreciated because sometimes you think it goes unnoticed.
“And to receive it in front of 500 at the league dinner, including former England Test cricketers Peter Sutch and Shaun Udal, was special.”
Grant, 49, joined Delph at the age of 12 and, apart from a five-year break, been there ever since.
He captained the side for 15 years, coached the juniors and carried out fundraising for the club.
Andy Gleave, Delph’s current captain, paid tribute to his team-mate.
He said: “It is the Huddersfield League’s version of a knighthood and deserved. He is a legend.
“It is nice for his achievements to be rewarded. Grant is a top man who is Delph through and through.”
