MORE stringent rules are now in place to help improve security at events held at the Civic Hall in Uppermill.
Saddleworth Parish Council, which is responsible for the building, has introduced the changes following concerns after a number of disturbances at events last year.
Cllr Graham Sheldon explained: “We will weigh up events as they come in and if we feel we need security but the hirer isn’t providing any, we will add on the cost to put that in place.
“A £150 security fee will be added to the hire cost. This will enable us to hire two door staff.
“They would be part of the same staff who are hired by various establishments in the village so they would all be in contact with each other.
“There have been a few incidents at the Civic Hall recently but not on a regular basis and we hope this will help.
“We are acting quite vigorously as we take the security of our building and those living nearby very seriously.”
The proposal was unanimously approved by Parish Councillors at their December meeting.
Cllr Sheldon added that the council is also looking into funds for CCTV around the Civic Hall as well as improving lights, especially in their car park area.
