Inaugural service held at St Chad’s for new Saddleworth Parish Council chairman

GUESTS FILLED St Chad’s Church in Uppermill for the inaugural service of the new Saddleworth Parish Council chairman Cllr Neil Allsopp.

Cllr Allsopp was accompanied by his wife Carol at the event, which was attended by civic signatories from surrounding local and parish councils and the Chairman’s invited guests.

The service was conducted by the Reverend Godfrey Adams while Bishop of Manchester, the Right Reverend Dr. David Walker, delivered the sermon.

The Director of Music was Dr. Eileen Bentley MBE and Boarshurst Silver Band accompanied one of the hymns. Following the service the band led a procession from the church to the Civic Hall for refreshments.

The service also celebrated the opening of the Saddleworth Arts Festival, with many members of the committee in attendance.
