Nicola White has been ruled out of this month’s European Hockey Championships through injury.

The 29-year-old former Saddleworth Hockey Club player damaged ligaments in her right ankle during a training match this week.

Nicola has been told that once the swelling has gone down she will need six week’s rehab before she can start playing again.

And with England starting the defence of their Euro Hockey title on Saturday, there in no way she could feature.

“Nicola is extremely disappointed not to be involved in England trying to retain their title, but nothing can be done to get her fit in time,” explained mum Gill.

She added Nicola’s goal is to regain fitness in time for the World League Finals that are being staged in New Zealand in December.

England’s Euro matches are being screened live on BT Sport.
