AN INTRIGUING talk will explore some of the area’s most stunning walks at a special fundraising event on Friday, March 18 to support Saddleworth Museum.
Chris Maylor will delve into his recently published guidebook ‘Oldham Discovery Walks’, which contains more than 120 miles of wonderful walks in and around the borough.
It follows on from Chris’s first book, ‘Saddleworth Discovery Walks’ and takes walkers on an historic journey through the town’s rich, hidden past.
From rugged moorland plateaus to secluded corners of beautiful countryside, each walk includes a hand-drawn map and a collection of stunning photographs.
There is also a detailed description of the 42-mile Oldham Way, the idea of which was originally conceived by past Mayor of Oldham Richard Knowles, who will give an introduction to the talk.
Chris will be accompanied by the two photographers whose shots feature in the book and signed copies of the book and framed prints will be available to purchase.
The event has been organised by the Friends of Saddleworth Museum to raise funds, especially as they cannot hold their Annual Plant Sale this year while the museum is closed for refurbishment.
The talk, followed by a book signing, will be held on Friday, March 18 at 7.30pm at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Uppermill.
Tickets cost £5, including light refreshments, and are available from the Museum’s portakabin shop every day between 1pm and 4pm.
‘Oldham Discovery Walks’ and ‘Saddleworth Discovery Walks’ cost £14.99. To purchase or for more information visit: http://saddleworthdiscoverywalks.co.uk
