THEY don’t offer sunshine on the menu at The White Lion but they do provide the next best thing.
So, twice a week customers at the Delph pub can now enjoy a flavour of Mexico.
So, say ‘hola’ to chef Alan Warrior’s extensive list of tasty dishes Mexican style from chilli to chicken wraps, tacos to tortilla, burritos to enchiladas.
The Lion launched their new food range last month at an event attended by Saddleworth Parish Council chairman, Cllr Nicola Kirkham, chairman’s lady Cllr Katrina Roman, Saddleworth Independent editor-in-chief, Aimee Belmore, and eager customers.
Cllr Kirkham: The food was fantastic. It was really great night and I think it will go down really well.”
“No one else around Saddleworth is doing it so we thought we would try something new,” explained Gemma Merrington who works alongside landlady, Marie Phillips and Carl Benson on the Lion’s varied menu of events.
“It has already taken off and become a big seller.”
Mexican cuisine – served on Tuesday and Thursdays – isn’t the only addition to the pub’s list of offerings.
Every Wednesday between 1-4pm the village pub is hosting a market for businesses looking to promote their own goods and services.
“The idea is to make it into a farmers’ style market so people can enjoy what the area has to offer,” added Gemma.
“We already have a fishmonger coming every week and hopefully more businesses will come on board.
“Anyone is welcome to turn up and sell whatever product they have. There is no charge.
“People can put flyers around the village, anything they wish to do to promote themselves. We’re just trying to show what the community has to offer.”
If anybody is interested in taking up a market space on the car park call Gemma on 01457 879313.
