A DOBCROSS woman stepped out on the Race For Life to raise £1,280 and counting to help others following her on the road to recovery from breast cancer.
Joyce Brown took on the 5k challenge around Alexandra Park, along with 700 other people, to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK.
A total of £41,000 was raised by participants at the event and Joyce was delighted with her contribution on her first time of tackling the race.
She said: “The event was a brilliant thing to participate in and I found it quite emotional. “There were a variety of people taking part including children.
“Everyone’s capabilities were catered for. There were the serious runners, the joggers and the walkers – I came into the latter group!
“I got chatting to someone and we encouraged each other when we were getting tired at the end.”
Joyce was diagnosed with breast cancer last October following a routine mammogram and after surgery and radiotherapy is now well on the road to recovery.
She added: “I decided to take part in the Race for Life to raise money to help beat more than 200 types of cancer.
“So many people have been affected by cancer, either through having it themselves or knowing someone who has.”
