A DELPH based business woman is in the running for a top National product award.
The news of Katie Mallalieu’s nomination through her Bailey Laine home furnishings and apparel brand comes as the Valley Mill firm marks its first year of successful trading.
The Bailey Laine brand of lamb’s wool throws and decorative cushions is challenging for the Giftware Association’s Gift of the Year 2017 in the Made in UK category.
Company founder Katie launched the brand in July 2015 with luxury wool cushions and has developed the range to include lampshades, throws and women’s capes made from the finest wool.
A keen advocate of supporting women in business, SMEs and British manufacturing, Katie has been recognised by her peers, having received Jacqueline Gold CBE’s Woman of the Week (#WOW Award) in August 2015.
“Following my departure from teaching, I worked for my family’s wool manufacturing business, Mallalieus of Delph,” she explained.
“After some months, I realised I wanted to combine Mallalieus’ wool manufacturing expertise and experience with my creative side and Bailey Laine was born.
“Our first year of trading has been hard work but reaped many rewards. We’ve been successful in expanding our product lines and have secured listings in independent stores across the country.
“I’m very proud to be celebrating our first year as a truly British luxury home furnishings brand and the Gift of the Year nomination tops it all off.”
The Gift of the Year awards are organised by the Giftware Association which has been supporting suppliers and retailers in the gift and home industry since 1947.
The awards recognise new and innovative products across 22 categories with the final winners announced on 5 February 2017.
