Kind-hearted foster carers honoured at annual celebration night

KIND-HEARTED foster carers from across the borough were thanked for their valuable contributions at Oldham Council’s annual celebration night.

Carers, councillors and special guests gathered for the event at the White Hart Inn, Lydgate, to recognise their help in looking after vulnerable children and young people.

Cllr Jenny Harrison, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Safeguarding, said: “The celebration evening is our way of saying thank you to all our carers – I can’t praise them enough.

“To welcome a child or young person into your home and family takes real dedication, commitment and generosity.

“Our carers really are special people and they are having a positive influence on those they are looking after.”

Oldham’s Deputy Mayor Councillor Derek Heffernan presented long service awards to people who have been caring for children for over five, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years.

Special recognition was given to Marilyn Morrison who has been fostering for Oldham Council for 25 years.
