TALENTED PUPILS from Knowsley Junior School were crowned netball champions at the Greater Manchester Youth Summer Games.
The year-six team clinched first place out of 19 schools after winning all four of their group stage matches, quarter-final and semi-final before defeating Mills Hill in the all-Oldham final.
The pupils, who move to secondary school in September, will be returning on Wednesday afternoons as netball ambassadors to help train younger teams.
Thanks go to Julie Leddy, who coached the side, and supporting teachers Mrs Alex Martorana and Mrs Liz Oliver.
Meanwhile pupils also excelled as they represented Saddleworth and Lees at the Oldham Borough Games.
The school’s dance troupe and tag rugby team both clinched gold medals, the handball team finished in second place and boys and girls football teams also finished well.
Teacher Mrs Alex Martorana said: “Usually schools only enter two teams but because of our sporting achievements we took five.
“We worked tirelessly at lunch times to get ready and the children all did so well.”
