GET BACK to the basics of an ancient art thanks to an exclusive competition with the Saddleworth Independent…
We’ve teamed up with Dobcross man John Matthews to offer two places on his drystone walling course for just £100 per person – saving each person £100.
John, who is fully trained, is holding the two-day course on August 19 and 20 through his company ‘Dog with a Bone’.
He welcomes men and women of all ages to join him to dig and lay foundations, build the wall and top it with coping stones.
In a similar competition run by the Independent last year, winner Hanna enjoyed the experience so much she vowed to fix all the broken walls at her own smallholding.
And last month Caroline came down from the Lake District for an intensive one-day course with John to learn all about the traditional skill.
John said: “Drystone walling is like going back in time, to a period that was slower, less stressed, more in tune with nature and the pace of the natural world.”
One lucky reader can win two discounted places on a drystone walling course courtesy of John Matthews at ‘Dog with a Bone’. The two-day course will cost £100 per person, instead of £200 per person.
To enter, simply answer this question: When will the course take place?
Email your answer to firstname.lastname@example.org or write to: Dry Stone Walling competition, Saddleworth Independent, Units 3-4, 45 High Street, Uppermill, Saddleworth, OL3 6HS.
The first correct entry drawn after the closing date of Friday, July 21, 2017 wins the discounted course for two.
