A popular Lees pub is set to temporarily close its doors for several months after problems with its roof became a “safety concern.”
The Grapes announced the closure after ongoing problems with the building developed into what the team described as a “safety concern.”
The pub has remained open despite scaffolding and building work taking place, with customers continuing to visit throughout the disruption.
In a statement, the team said: “It has been a pretty hectic time for us, and we honestly couldn’t have got through the last few months without the amazing support we’ve had from everyone who has continued to come through our doors and support The Grapes.
“Even with all the scaffolding, building work and everything going on outside, you’ve still continued to come in, have a drink, enjoy yourselves and support us.
“Unfortunately, the problems we’ve been having with the roof have now become a safety concern, so we have to close while the work is carried out.
“It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly, but it’s something that needs to be done.”
The Grapes will close from Monday, September 14, with the work expected to keep the venue shut until late November or early December.
Before the temporary closure, the pub planned a week of events including a psychic night, bingo and live entertainment, with its final day of trading on Sunday, September 13.
An exact reopening date has not yet been confirmed, with the pub expected to provide further details as the work progresses.
