A FIGHTING fund to help pay the costs of a legal challenge to Oldham Council planning department’s decision to approve a massive homes plan for Springhead, Lees and Grotton has topped £20,000.
Save Our Valleys (SOV) campaigners are determined to seek a judicial review into the case and last month launched their 200 Club as part of their fundraising effort.
The goal was for 200 people from Saddleworth to each donate £100.
SOV members also organised an August bank holiday weekend of activities to swell the coffers, holding a beer quiz walk and Party in the Pavilion concert featuring a number of local artists at Grotton Pavilion.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The 200 Club now has over 100 members and the numbers continue to grow.
“We are at £20,000 now with monies coming in on a daily basis.
“Plans are already in place to configure a Halloween beer / pub walk possibly with a fancy dress theme.
“A quiz and buffet night in the Springhead Liberal Club will potentially be a sell out with over 50 confirmed already.
“We are looking into the possibility of holding a black tie ball later this year or early next.
“In short, we are not giving up and fully intend to continue.
“We will be looking to build on links with affiliate groups across the borough in Grasscroft and Greenfield, Royton, Woodhouses and Shaw.
“We are determined with the amazing local support to get this planning action revoked.”
