PARENTING CAN be tough and challenging – as Karen Shaw, a single mum and survivor of three sons knows all too well.
The life coach has recently moved to the area and is keen to share her ‘Parenting Magic’’ tips, tools and techniques for successful and enjoyable parenting.
She said: “Parenting can definitely be more stressful than it used to be as times have changed.

“More parents have to go out to work, there are financial pressures, child care problems and the extended family has diminished, with grandparents now still working themselves longer and not able to help with child care.”
Karen points to Emma Givvons, one of the owners at Style & Salvaged in Uppermill, who is a busy mum juggling work, home life and family commitments.
Emma said: “I found it really difficult when my little girl was born because my mum worked full time herself.”
After learning from her own difficulties as a single parent as well as hearing about others, Karen decided to use her therapy training to help parents get things right.
“Parenting is one of the most important jobs anyone can have and without any qualifications and babies don’t come with a manual or instruction book!” said Karen.
“It was only after training in Nero Linguistic Programming (NLP) Hypnotherapy, Time Line Release Therapy and other Energy Therapies that I find ways of changing everything.
“I put into practice what I learnt and saw a massive improvement in all areas of my life and especially in my relationship with my boys, who were all teenagers at the time.
“I knew then I wanted to share and pass on what worked for me and now spend my time doing one to one coaching and running workshops for parents.”
And other parents can’t praise her techniques and help highly enough.
Tracy Atkinson said: “Karen has made me look at the way I parent completely differently. She explains things in a way that is believable and easy to understand.
“I’ve change the language I use and I am far more in control than I used to be.”
Dawn Jackson added: “I have noticed a dramatic change in my youngest son’s behaviour– he has never wanted to hug me, which has been hard, but I am finding he wants me to hug him now.
“I am so grateful Karen has given me that wake up call and taught me to connect and communicate effectively with my family and break down the barriers that I have put there.”
Karen also spends time speaking at events and delivering training to teaching and nursery staff around ‘Positive Effective Communication’.
Karen is next running a parenting workshop at Style & Savaged, Lee Street, Uppermill on Thursday, March 17 from 10.30am – 1pm. The sessions costs £30 per person.
