Nineteen local artists and makers will come together at Gallery Oldham next month for a celebration of creativity as the borough marks its Town of Culture year.
GO! Artists will return to Gallery Oldham on Saturday, October 17, giving visitors the opportunity to discover and buy original artwork and handmade pieces directly from the people who created them.
The event, organised by the Friends of Gallery Oldham, will take place in The Creator Space at the gallery from 10am until 4pm.
Artists and makers from Oldham and the surrounding area will showcase a diverse range of creative work, including paintings, ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, sculpture and illustration.
Visitors will be able to meet the artists, learn more about their work and support independent local creatives, with entry costing just £1. Children and students can attend for free.
The fair also raises money to support Gallery Oldham and its collection.
Last year’s inaugural event helped fund the acquisition of a sundial, which has since been installed at the gallery and added to its collection.
The Friends of Gallery Oldham hope this year’s event will build on that success, raising further funds while continuing to provide a platform for local artists and makers.
Anne Bardsley, vice chair of the Friends of Gallery Oldham, said: “There is so much creative talent on our doorstep, and the fair gives artists an opportunity to showcase their work, meet new audiences and connect directly with the local community.”
She added that the recently installed sundial was a “fantastic example” of how supporting the Friends could help bring new pieces into the gallery’s collection.
There will also be an art tombola, with original artwork and handmade prizes donated by participating artists and makers.
Funds raised through the tombola will provide additional support for the Friends and their continued work with Gallery Oldham.
This year’s fair comes during Oldham’s Town of Culture year, putting the borough’s artists, makers and wider creative community in the spotlight.
Organisers say GO! Artists is intended to be more than an opportunity to buy art, with visitors able to meet the creatives behind the work, hear their stories and discover new local talent.
The Friends of Gallery Oldham is a volunteer organisation which supports the gallery through fundraising and other activities, including contributing towards the acquisition of new artwork for its collection.
