ONE OF Saddleworth’s smallest communities is to re-establish itself as an independent group.
Love Lydgate, which celebrated its fifth birthday last year, was embraced by Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents Association (GGRA) in 2009.
But now they will go their separate ways as GGRA concentrates on being a campaigning group with a watching brief while Love Lydgate concentrates on improving infrastructure and atmosphere in Lydgate and neighbouring Grasscroft.
Love Lydgate chair, Jennifer Greenwood, said: “We want to focus on fostering community spirit and making the best of what we have.
“GGRA are in the process of changing their constitution and this seemed a good opportunity to establish ourselves independently.
“However, we hope we can still work to mutually support each other as neighbours and friends.”
Dr Andrew Taylor, chair of GGRA said: “It’s time to recognise we will work best as separate organisations, closely linked by information sharing but not by time consuming requirements of close joint working.
“Love Lydgate and GGRA welcome residents to be members of both organisations for the different reasons of our differing objectives and, as before, will keep each other’s members up to date with our activities.”
