THREE TALENTED writers will be the winners of cash prizes and productions thanks to Lyceum Theatre Oldham’s ‘PlotFest’, a One Act Playwriting Competition.
With a closing date of 31 December 2017, there’s plenty of time for budding and experienced playwrights over 18 to come up with an idea and put it down on paper.
The short plays should be 20-30 minutes long with 2-5 characters. All information, aims and rules can be found on the website www.lyceum.org.uk
Next year, Lyceum Theatre Oldham reaches its 90th anniversary and is starting the celebrations by staging the three winning plays of PlotFest on 13 & 14 July 2018 at Lyceum Theatre Oldham.
The winners will also receive cash prizes of £250 (1st Prize), £125 (2nd Prize) and £75 (3rd Prize).
The three judges are well-known to Oldham audiences and other local theatre companies: Maggie Blaszczok, Pauline Walsh and Dominic Peberdy.
Maggie, who has over 40 years’ involvement at the Lyceum on stage as well as directing, stood down as one of the Artistic Directors 12 months ago after seven years in the role.
As a judge she says she is “looking for plays which will surprise, challenge and be entertaining.
“This type of event helps to keep the theatre alive, vibrant and forward looking. It encourages experienced writers and helps develop new talent. I am delighted and excited to be involved in this new venture at the Lyceum.”
Pauline is one of two Artistic Directors of Lyceum Theatre Oldham, and has been involved with the company for six years as a director, actor and both back stage and front of house
She said: “I am passionate about the theatre and see as many productions as possible – both professional and amateur. Theatre is a source of great joy.”
Actor Dominic has played on the Lyceum stage for the past five years and is best known to Guide Bridge audiences as an actor, as well as stage managing when needed.
